Međimurska Popevka Inspires a Gold-Winning Digital Project at the Lovie Awards

The Lovie Awards are the most important European awards recognizing excellence in digital media


The project "A Soup to Remember" won the gold award in the category Beyond: Art, Culture & Heritage at this year's prestigious Lovie Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS). This recognition highlights the project as one of the most innovative and impactful digital achievements in Europe, blending tradition, art, and technology to convey an important cultural story to future generations.


Founded in 2010, the Lovie Awards represent the pinnacle of recognition for excellence, innovation, and creativity on the internet in Europe. The awards span a wide range of digital works, including websites, mobile applications, video content, podcasts, and social media projects. The goal of the competition is to recognize projects that redefine standards in the digital industry, push the boundaries of creativity, and significantly shape the online landscape. The IADAS jury, composed of leading professionals in various fields of digital media, ensures a rigorous evaluation process and acknowledges works that offer genuine value and innovation.


The inspiration for the project comes from the Međimurska popevka, a traditional song from the Međimurje region, which was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2018. To reach a wider audience and ensure the lasting preservation of this cultural heritage, a unique concept was created that merges tradition with contemporary technology. As part of the project, a limited edition collection of five books dedicated to the Međimurska popevka was produced. Each book comes with special packaging that includes Marodi alphabet soup pasta, carefully designed so that the number of letters in the package matches the exact number of letters in the song featured in the book.


This project is not just a cultural product but also an innovative way to raise awareness about the value of tradition and intangible heritage. Through a blend of creative storytelling, visual art, and everyday products, "A Story Worth Every Letter" transcends conventional boundaries and serves as an example of how digital tools can play a pivotal role in preserving and promoting cultural identity. The gold award at the Lovie Awards affirms its universal value and relevance on both the European and global stages.
